No 1 Kent Street is a series of three interlocking heritage warehouse buildings located at the north end of Sydney’s CBD. With views that overlook Walsh Bay and Sydney Harbour, this historic commercial space needed a modern touch to bring it in line with modern work standards.

Jackson Teece was commissioned by Melbourne property business Kamirice and JCK Consulting to fully refurbish and overhaul the confusing and ineffective floor plan at 1 Kent Street. Over 25 years of minor additions and alterations had created a winding and often confusing space that was littered with kitchenettes, bathrooms, offices and meeting rooms. that A physically complex structure, this poor functionality also extended to the utilities sections of the building, with mechanical and electrical services requiring an overhaul to maintain the free flowing consistency of Jackson Teece’s new design plans.-

Jackson Teece proposed a consolidation of the various amenities and the creation of a new internal southern core. The intent – free, open-plan work environments that would encourage collaboration, discussion and free-flowing movement for all who occupy the building. The new southern location proposal was central to this idea, with a footprint that minimised impact on inspiring harbour-side views and the strong natural light that filtered into the building. Additionally, upgraded services, lifts, lighting, mechanical and entry lobbies rounded out a striking internal enhancement that offers a fresh perspective to workers without removing any of its historic
