Jackson Teece took on this residential interiors project looking to alter and add to this inner-city terrace.
An updated front of house colour scheme adds a modern touch to a heritage lined streetscape. This contemporary feel begins a journey that flows through to the heart of this project – a plush rear extension that includes an inviting outdoor dining and ample space for further leisure and entertaining.
Luxury natural materials were used internally, adding touches of personality to reflect the owner’s artful style. Joinery was carefully considered as elements of furniture and custom designed for each space, creating a bespoke natured interior. The palette, though essentially neutral, provides character and contrast in texture, allowing the interior to change mood overtime as decorative pieces evolve.
The rear of the house has been conceived as two pavilion structures, one housing the main internal living space, and the other providing shelter for the external dining area. Both are defined by black steel framing emphasising a low horizontal aspect – echoing balmy evenings in the modernist paradise of mid-century Palm Springs.

These design choices work effectively in contrast to the front’s masonry walls and proportioned vertical windows, providing a space that is grounded in its past heritage environment while also offering a clear present form, and an updated living space for its future.
