A residential conversion project for developers first time developers CItywide Pty Ltd, this development refurbishes a 1930’s Art Deco warehouse building into 11 contemporary multistory apartments.

Retaining an existing facade to Glebe St, our proposal inserts new filigree louver elements into extended window apertures to create a new language of privacy. A public access walkway runs along the street frontage at an elevated level with glazing and ventilation louvers to the Glebe street frontage. Seven new three story two bedroom ‘townhouse’ style apartments are created within the existing warehouse over a common basement car park.

To Crown St at the rear four new two story apartments with north facing courtyards have been designed to tack advantage of the northern aspect and sunlight. Externally copper cladding elements combine with a timber screen to create a bold graphic street frontage.

A neutral white scheme with touches of black detail and a relief of heritage tiles capture the graphic nature of the original Art Deco spirit, whilst subtly updating the building.

Internally a perforated metal blade defines the staircase and creates a large diffuser for light falling from ceiling skylights overhead. The living environments are generous with separate dining lounge area's leading to a private courtyard. A modern kitchen of mirror, travertine & warm off white polyurethane anchors the living environment.
